Less than two weeks ago Graham Potter’s position as Chelsea boss was hanging by the barest of threads when a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham all but ended their hopes of a top-four finish. With one win under their belt this calendar year, as many goals scored in six games and an influx of new recruits struggling, the Blues were in freefall under Potter and their next two outings were therefore seen as critical for his tenure. Yet fast forward 10 days and the future is suddenly a lot rosier for him at Stamford Bridge, with last Saturday’s 1-0 win at home Leeds followed by the best performance of his reign so far, a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. After fighting back against the German club to book their place in the quarter-finals, Potter now has plenty to be optimistic about heading into the business end of the season.
