Colombia defender Andrés Escobar was assassinated by drug cartel Medellín in July 1994 after scoring his own goal against the United States, leading to his relegation from the World Cup.
After the match, he was tried by his personal agents and bystanders to keep him out until the situation calmed down, but Escobar still knew he was going to die in football. After he uttered these phrases just a few weeks later, he was pronounced dead by the assassins.
Reports claim that the killers shouted “Goal” after they fired a sixth shot at the player, for a total of 12 bullets were found by Andres Escobar.
