Haaland has been nominated for the Ballon d'Or after scoring 52 goals in Manchester City's three-match winning streak.

But City boss Guardiola has always praised his former Barcelona man, who pushed Argentina to success at the 2022 World Cup, as the best player he has ever coached.


Guardiola said:

"I always say the Ballon d'Or has to be two, one for Messi and one for the other players.

Haaland should win. We won three trophies because he scored 52 goals, but of course Messi - his worst season was the best of many. You both deserve this title.

"I would like to say that I want to come to Erling because he helped us achieve what we set out to do. I would be happy, but I will not tell you that it would be unfair if Leo won."
