Mr. Prak Vuthy: U20 Cambodian women have potential but still lack experience in international competition

March 18, 2023

Prak Vuthy, coach of the Cambodian Under-20 women’s football team, sees his team as having potential but not yet having the confidence and self-confidence to play. Cambodia dropped out of Group G of the AFC U20 Woman’s Asian Cup 2024 with just three points, one win and one loss. Despite the defeat, the Cambodian U-20 women’s team showed their potential by beating Malaysia 1-0 and made many fans appreciate their teamwork.

In the AFC U20 Woman’s Asian Cup 2024, the Under-20 women’s national team proved its potential by team play and transmission and scoring techniques, he told the Telegraph. The ball was right. On the other hand, the 1-0 win over Malaysia on March 10 at the Smart RSN Stadium impressed the spectators with their confidence. And the first victory over the Malaysian team made many fans more interested in the activities of Cambodian women’s football.

The Cambodian national team coach said: “For the U-20, we lost the opportunity because they took only one team up. Despite missing out, our positive result is that all the athletes get experience in the competition. Some of the athletes are new recruits and have never encountered international competitions. We also looked at the yield, resources, resources of the U-20 players to participate. “So the resources that we have selected, we can say that some have good potential and some are still low, we need to help strengthen him.”

Unfortunately, the Cambodian team did not do well because their first match lost to Myanmar 2-0 on March 8 at Smart RSN Stadium. In the match against Myanmar, some players did not do well as they did not have faith and self-confidence. That means some players are good, but they lack the experience to compete on the international stage, which makes them lose confidence and can not express their potential and technique well.

Regarding this negative point, Mr. Prak Wutty said: “Only one training is not enough, but there must be many competitions, both domestic and international.”
In Group G, Myanmar advanced to the next round with a 2-0 win over Cambodia and a 3-1 win over Malaysia. Cambodia lost to Myanmar 2-0 and Malaysia 1-0.
