Manchester United have reportedly received a number of loan enquiries for Mason Greenwood from a number of Turkish clubs.
The 21-year-old was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault in October last year. He was suspended by United and has not appeared or trained with the club since then.
The charges were dropped last month by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and now, as United continue to conduct there own investigation, it appears Greenwood is drawing transfer interest ahead of a potential return to football.
According to the Telegraph, a number of Turkish clubs – and clubs with open transfer windows – have made loan enquiries over the English forward.
The same outlet claim that none of the interested clubs have acted on their interest yet.
The Turkish transfer window on February 18th but was given an extension until March 5th by the country’s football federation.
There are only five other countries who still have an open transfer window. They are Iceland, Norway, Moldova, Belarus and the Faroe Islands.
After the CPS dropped charges against Greenwood, United confirmed that they will ‘conduct its own process before determining next steps’.
A short statement from the club said: ‘Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.
‘The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.’
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced the dropped charges last month, citing a ‘withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light’.
They also made mention of developments that meant there was ‘no longer a realistic prospect of conviction’.
Greenwood – who has a £70,000-a-week contract until 2025 with the option of a further year at United – will not return to training or playing while this internal probe is ongoing.
United boss Erik ten Hag is understood to have spoken to Greenwood to check on his mental and physical state and to tell him he was ‘pleased’ the charges had been dropped. The squad are split over Greenwood returning, according to The Times.
Some members of the squad harbour concerns about his return, as is reported to be the case with the women’s team, while some possess no objections to Greenwood being welcomed back.
Greenwood first joined United at the age of six and made his debut for the club in 2019, in a victory over French side Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
He has gone on to win a single cap for England, against Iceland in September 2020.
