Former Scotland international Chris Sutton has given an interview to the Daily Mail on a number of topics related to Manchester United, and the 50-year-old sees Harry Maguire as captain rather than midfielder Bruno Fernandes.


Maguire has been outstanding in recent games and has been trusted by manager Erik ten Hag to feature in the starting XI. The 30-year-old center-back was sacked to Fernandes last summer, but Sutton believes he deserves more than the Portuguese midfielder as Man Utd face current challenges.

"You look at the great captains of Manchester United in the past," Sutton said. "[Roy] Keane, [Bryan] Robson, [Steve] Bruce, [Nemanja] Vidic and [Gary] Neville.

""We have defended Ten Hag so far, but it is up to Ten Hag to change captain and Bruno to this role. And there are many reasons why Maguire will not play, but I support Maguire as captain. "I want him to lead the team more than Bruno."
