Bayer Leverkusen president rejects Xabi Alonso’s move

Bayer Leverkusen are confident that Xabi Alonso will not accept a potential offer to rejoin Real Madrid in 2024. The former Los Blancos midfielder is rumored to be on the club's shortlist to replace Carlo Ancelotti if the veteran Italian takes over at Brazil when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Ancelotti is open about his stay in Madrid, but admits leading the club is a career goal for Alonso and other former players. Following a summer interest from Tottenham in the Premier League, Bayer Leverkusen have agreed to extend Alonso's contract until 2026 at BayArena. Alonso has already said it 'too early' to consider a link to Real Madrid as he remains committed to his project in Germany.

The statements were backed by Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes, who claimed the club were not worried about Madrid's attractiveness. "We got his commitment a few weeks ago when he extended his contract," according to a report from Mundo Deportivo. "Xabi does not need to say anything. He extended his contract. He is completely focused here. ”
